What you will explore

The MOOC is organized into four modules that gradually build your understanding of soils and their role in our world.

• Module 1 – Soil services: Why soils matter. Discover why soils are essential for ecosystems, food production, climate regulation, and human well-being, and explore how soils support life on Earth in many visible and invisible ways.
• Module 2 – Soil diversity. Explore the remarkable diversity of soils and learn how different soils form and develop across landscapes through the interaction of climate, organisms, topography, parent material, and time.
• Module 3 – Threats to soils. Understand major threats to soils and examine real-world examples of how people across Europe are working to protect and restore them.
• Module 4 – Becoming active for soils. Reflect on your own relationship with soils and explore how you can contribute to soil literacy — the understanding, awareness, and actions that help individuals and societies value and care for soils.
